Smartphone Apps & Driving Habits with Mitsubishi Road Assist+ | Lafayette, LA

Working with LexisNexis Risk Solutions, Mitsubishi recently announced the release of its new Mitsubishi Road Assist+ smartphone app. This new app will let you save money on insurance by tracking good driving habits, and it also provides Roadside Assistance if you need it. Best of all, there’s no need to install telematic hardware in your vehicle—simply add the app and start driving.

How does it work?

Road Assist+ is an upgrade to an existing app that provides 24-hour emergency roadside assistance for everything from flat tires to engine breakdowns. It’s the first hardware-free telematics system that collects driver behavior information in order to provide drivers with feedback about their habits behind the wheel. Participating insurance companies can then use that driver behavior information to provide discounts for drivers that are especially safe behind the wheel. Why should you pay more if you’re less likely to be in an accident?

How can I get it?

You can add the app to your smartphone to start collecting data in compatible vehicles, which are those with connected services. It will soon be available in the Apple App Store and Android’s Google Play, and most new vehicle models come with the available connectivity features necessary to use the app. The system works with companies like State Auto Insurance, and the brand intends to find other companies to participate. Best of all, the system can automatically update without drivers having to reinstall hardware, which helps the system provide more accurate driving information the longer the app is installed and updated.
