Look at all four of your tires. Look for any uneven tread wear and cracks or bulges in the sidewall. You should also measure the tread depth. While the penny test will let you know when it is time to replace, we recommend the quarter test for improved safety and traction. If you stick a quarter in the tread and can see the top of Washington’s head, it is time to start shopping for tires. This is especially important since you will be doing a lot of driving on a road trip.
You also want to make sure your tires are properly inflated. Under or over inflated tires can be safety hazards and they can make your tires wear out sooner.
Look through your owner’s manual to find the recommended service schedule. If your car has fallen behind on any of these recommendations, schedule a service appointment at Hampton Mitsubishi to get back on track before you leave.
Get as much junk and trash out of your car as you can. You don’t want to haul around anything unnecessary on your trip as this could further weigh down your car. Have designated trash bags or containers for passengers to try and keep the potential mess contained.
